PROFINET basics
Profinet IO uses open standards of communication and information technology. Since a standard Ethernet frame is transmitted, it is also possible for devices that do not support the PROFINET IO protocol, to be integrated into the system. Diagnosis is made using defined PROFINET IO services and the network management protocol SNMP. Whereas the connection between components is established via UDP/IP and DCP, device addressing is realized using device names. Time synchronization corresponds to the international IEC 61588 standard.
Profinet IO provides three communication channels that are adapted to the requirements of different device classes and can be implemented in parallel with the same network or device: Standard channel (TCP/IP, UDP/IP), realtime channel RT (Real Time) and realtime channel IRT (Isochronous Real Time).
