  KW-Software gets PLCopen Safety Certificate

In the context of the Hanover Industry Trade Fair 2006, KW-Software was the first company that obtained the PLCopen Safety Certificate for its safe programming system SAFEPROG. With the PLCopen safety specification, an important step towards the standardization of safe application software for programmable safety controls was made. The specification has been successfully reviewed and released by TÜV Rheinland and BGIA. Thus, KW-Software is the first company that provides with its safe IEC 61131 programming system SAFEPROG a product which fulfills the requirements of the PLCopen safety specification and is already certified according to the IEC 61508 up to SIL3.

Beneath programming guidelines, the PLCopen safety specification primarily comprises the standardization of the 20 most important safety functions implemented as function blocks, such as Emergency Stop, Safety Door or Two-Hand Control. The use of these safe function blocks considerably simplifies the creation and validation of safe application programs. SAFEPROG is the first safe programming system which contains a basic library with 9 function blocks according to the PLCopen safety specification. All further blocks will also be available until the mid of 2007. KW-Software provides manufacturers a complete platform of certified software components for the easy realization of a safety control.
