Fixed Format LD Editor

Grid-based LD programming with many additional features

The Fixed Format LD editor serves for PLC programming in the IEC programming language LD (Ladder Diagram). In addition to the free graphic standard editor, it provides numerous useful features in MULTIPROG®, which significantly simplify the programming of LD networks.

Traditional and yet very up-to-date: the Fixed Format LD editor

  • Grid-based worksheet, similar to many "traditional" LD editors. PLC programmers will feel very much at home here from the start.
  • Program control statements enable easy linking of the IEC programming languages LD and ST. For this purpose, read more at the end of this page.
  • Adjustable display mode for variables. Apart from the variable name you can display the I/O address, the data type and the comment of variables.
  • Like the free graphic standard editor, the Fixed Format editor can also be generally operated via the keyboard. In addition, you have the opportunity to find and replace objects and texts.
  • Source conversion into the languages FBD or IL is possible.
  • Export as LD code template: With the help of an extended copy function, the entire content of a worksheet can be exported into a file and pasted into empty LD worksheets from there.
  • Standard names for new contacts, coils and variables: For each LD worksheet, you can indicate whether newly pasted LD elements are to be linked with variables by default and thus determine the variable names.
  • Autorouting function when connecting objects. LD objects can either be linked in the connection mode or via drag & drop.

Program control statements: Link between LD and ST

In the Fixed Format LD editor, elements of the language ST (Structured Text) can be combined with LD objects. With statements like for example IF, CASE, WHILE etc., you can control the execution of other control statements, LD objects or functions/function blocks in LD worksheets.
The ST elements are inserted in the form of program control statements. There are two different types of control statements:
  • Elementary program control statements: For this type of statement the management of the statements is only done in the statement bar, i.e. the expression of a statement type is defined in the statement bar.
  • Extended program control statements: In contrast to basic control statements, these statements use LD networks as expression.
