Automation with .NET - The device world opens up!
KW-Software introduces a .NET-based device-independent automation concept for automating simple devices up to PLCs. Due to the use of MSIL as device-independent intermediate language and Microsoft CLR Debug Interface for downloading, monitoring and diagnosing, a manufacturer-independent device interface based on Microsoft standard technology is created for the first time. For "moderate" real time, Microsoft CLR is used under Windows operating systems and for "hard" real time under embedded operating systems such as VxWorks or under Windows operating systems, ProConOS embedded CLR is used. The first purchasable products based on this technology are planned for 2005. |

The basic idea behind this: Controlling machines with .NET technology?
The development of the Embedded CLR is based on the idea to control machines with Windows® or, more precisely, to use the CLR runtime system of Microsoft .NET Framework. .NET is based on the Common Runtime Language (CLR). It executes all applications independent of the selected programming language and the hardware platform and thus forms a standardized runtime system for .NET target platforms. |

MSIL standard language
One of the special features of .NET is the standardized intermediate code MSIL (Microsoft Intermediate Language), which forms a common intermediate code base for different programming languages. The MSIL language is completely open, object-oriented, device-independent and supports any combination. |
 |
| |
This means: Via MSIL, devices can cooperate with all engineering tools which are able to create MSIL. For example, this way devices can be programmed in C# and with MULTIPROG® (IEC-61131 programming) or other tools at the same time. Furthermore, with the Microsoft CLR Debug Interface you have a manufacturer-independent device interface for downloading, monitoring and diagnosis. |
