Automation Framework supports the FDT/DTM technology
The FDT (Field Device Tool) technology standardizes the communication interface between control systems and field devices, independently of the control system software and the device software as well as the used communication protocol. That way, FDT allows to address any devices via any systems using any protocols.
The central component is the Device Type Manager (DTM) which is supplied by the manufacturer. The DTM contains all device-specific data, functions and operating rules such as the device structure, existing communication possibilities, internal dependencies and the abilities for the man-machine communication. The DTMs provide functions which allow to retrieve device parameters, to configure and operate devices and to detect errors.
The DTM is loaded in a frame application, the so-called FDT container. The FDT container provides the interfaces between the DTM and the used fieldbus or the connected devices and allows and handles respectively the interaction between device and engineering software. |

FDT/DTM with Automation Framework
Automation Framework supports the FDT/DTM technology. This support must be seen under the aspect of an integrated engineering approach because, due to the possibility to integrate FDT containers/DTMs as components, a complete integration of engineering and runtime into the automation solution is possible.
Your advantages:
-
Direct integration of the FDT container with, for example, PLC programming, visualization and network configuration.
-
Open platform due to .NET used as base technology: Further own or foreign engineering tools can be integrated.
|
 |
| |
- Possibility to use the integrated data management in the Automation Framework (ObjectStore).
- Scalable solution: Simple generic DTMs for simple devices up to device-specific user interfaces for complex devices are possible.
- Central download and upload of parameters.
- Defined standard functions available for
- online parameterization, - offline parameterization, - diagnostic, - configuration and - monitoring.
- Separation of user interface and communication.

Example of an FDT/DTM application
KW-Software has prepared the way for the FDT/DTM support of the Automation Framework and our customers have already realized their own FDT/DTM applications based on this. |
