Is the OPC-Server licensed for Windows 7?
Yes, for 32 bit system since version 2.1 build 183, for 64 bit systems since version 2.1 build 193.

Is the OPC-Server licensed for Windows Vista?
Yes, the OPC-Server is compatible with Windows Vista from version 2.1 build 93.

Are there limitations for the ProConOS OPC-Server demo version?
The runtime is limited to 60 minutes. After this the OPC-Server must be restarted.

I want to connect an OPC client with the OPC-Server and get the error message "login failed".
"Login failed" does not refer to the OPC client. This message is created if the OPC-Server cannot find a control to which it can establish a connection.

Please check your network with regard to TCP/IP connection. This must be established between the system with the OPC-Server and the control to be monitored. It is also possible that communication is blocked by a firewall.

How many variables can be monitored with one OPC-Server?
20000 variables, independent of the number of connected controls. If more than 20000 variables are connected, no error message is issued. The values of all additional variables are no longer monitored (status BAD). Please note that only 4500 variables can be monitored per source, independent of the total number of variables.

How many controls can be accessed with one OPC-Server?
32

How many OPC clients can be connected with one OPC-Server?
Unrestricted. But a large number of clients can use the OPC-Server to capacity and affect performance.

How many OPC-Servers can be connected with the ProConOS embedded CLR?
On the ProConOS embedded CLR side there is no restriction of the number of OPC-Servers that can be connected with the embedded CLR. The embedded CLR has no limit for TCP/IP channels.
A limit is only set by the PLC itself, or the network into which it is integrated.

How many OPC-Servers can be connected with one ProConOS?
By default, 4 OPC-Servers can be connected with one ProConOS. Most ProConOS versions are configured for 4 TCP/IP channels. This means that ProConOS can only communicate via 4 channels simultaneously.
If ProConOS is connected with MULTIPROG for example, 3 TCP/IP channels remain for the OPC-Server.

Can 2 instances of the OPC-Server be used on one system?
No.

Can the OPC-Server communicate with a web server as client?
No, the OPC-Server communicates with its clients via DCOM and not via TCP/IP.

If an OPC client is started as a service, no other client can be connected with the OPC-Server.
Please make sure that your OPC client does not open an instance of the OPC-Server in the background and tries to connect to the control independently. You can monitor whether your client has started its own instance of the OPC-Server in the process list of the Windows Task Manager.

Can I connect my ProConOS OPC-Server with the MULTIPROG-internal ProConOS simulation?
In MULTIPROG, select "Simulation 1" in the configuration menu of the configuration. Then compile your project and open the project control dialog to start the ProConOS simulation. Load your project to the ProConOS simulation and start it.
To connect the OPC-Server with the ProConOS simulation, you must select "PCOS3LE" and "Simulation 1" in the OPC configurator.
Please note that the ProConOS simulation can only use one TCP/IP communication channel. So to be able to connect the OPC-Server with the ProConOS simulation, first you must close the MULTIPROG project control dialog, as it occupies the TCP/IP channel. The same applies to any completed visualizations. You can then access the OPC data of the simulation with an OPC client.

Can I hand over structs and arrays to the OPC-Server?
Yes. Arrays can be read directly from the OPC client. As the precise structure of the data type is not known to the OPC-Server, structs are handed over to the OPC client as byte array and must be manually joined together again there to form the structure.
